SONIAH (tie for Floor)

by FAINA designs, Victoria Yakusha

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

SONIAH from Ukrainian 'soniah' means a sunflower. Highly appreciated on Ukrainian land from where comes the author of the collection, a sunflower serves as the main symbol rebirthed in the form of the objects. Primitive Soniah floor lamps stem from the ground stretching their tall sculptural stalks up to the sky. The design pieces feature tactile sculptural surfaces hand sculpted from a sustainable mass 'ztista' - a unique invention by FAINA. Based on clay fortified with straw, wood chips, recycled paper, and other natural components, ‚ztista‘ material is applied on a recycled steel frame with a technique similar to one the Ukrainians used for a traditional dwelling a long ago. Following the brand’s philosophy of 'live design', this living material was invented with the idea that, in the future, it can be ground up and decompose in soil — get back to nature.

PROJECT SPECS:

Each floor lamp is crafted by hand in FAINA’s sustainable material — ZTISTA. Sculptural SONIAH lamps stem from the ground, their pure shapes eliminate the excess and shine light on the pristine.
