Cosmos (tie)

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Cosmos lamps serve as an evocative representation of the theory that the universe is shaped like a donut or a torus. The central axis and two vortices on either end constantly cycle energy and information, while anything introduced into the vortex will continuously cycle around the torus in an endless loop.

This idea is further accentuated by the materials used to make the lamps, particularly the torus which allows light to interact with the structure and further emphasize the concept. By understanding the concept of cyclical ways of life, rituals can be better understood and appreciated, making the pair of lamps the perfect illustration of the idea.

PROJECT SPECS:

Cosmos portable table lamps have rechargeable batteries and can be recharged on the Qi dock. Measuring 10" in diameter and 12" in height, they feature an adjustable 12V LED strip wrapped around the torus core. The light intensity can be dimmed, activated by tapping the torus. The structure is made of recycled unpolished light walnut wood, while the torus is injection-molded ABS resin. The dock is crafted from recycled stainless steel for a scratch-free finish.
