CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Bend a curve and toss it skyward. Minima is the luminous trail left behind.

The name Minima tells the story of the surface. We developed it through many experiments of stretching, bending, restraining, pulling, warping, and frequently destroying various materials. The complex form that emerged is the minimum 3D surface between 2D curves. It is internally static, manufacturable, and visually dynamic.

The skin of the lamp is a proprietary composite of pigmented paper pulp and stretched polyethylene. Its curvature expresses maximal contraction. A clear skeleton within suspends an LED array and unifies the whole. The subtle tone of illumination, unique to Minima, results from graded filtration through the composite skin.

Minima is a curious object of warmth and poise that emits a lithe energy, activating space from every point of view.

PROJECT SPECS:

The four Minima lamps range from a 750mm table lamp to a 1800mm floor lamp. The manufacturing process uses a wide range of techniques from CNC cutting for the skeleton to a steady hand for coating. Although the same internal logic applies to all four lamps, an infinite number of configurations is possible by rotating and positioning the complementary forms to gently illuminate any space.

It is a way to bring our intense fascination with materials, form, and craft into greater focus and accessibility. Each product develops out of an experimental process by which every detail is considered and refined, the design evolving through making.
