STEPHEN BURKS
Stephen Burks is a designer, educator, and traveler.
As the first and only African-American to win the Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt National Design Award in Product Design, Stephen is one of the most recognized American industrial designers of his generation.
His New York based studio, Stephen Burks Man Made, bridges the gap between authentic majority world production, industrial manufacturing and contemporary design. He has developed unique collections for some of the world’s leading design-driven brands including B&B Italia, BD Barcelona, Boffi, Bolon, Calvin Klein, Cappellini, Dedon, Luceplan, Missoni, Moroso, Parachilna, Roche Bobois, and Swarovski.
Stephen was a 2018 Harvard Loeb Fellow and in 2019, he joined the faculty at Harvard Graduate School of Design’s Master of Design Engineering program and became an expert-in-residence at the Harvard Innovation Lab.
