Scraps

by Octavio Asensio

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Scraps Lamps is a collection of lamps made from scraps of standard metal profiles from the construction industry. The combination of water-based colours and above all the wide variety of profiles used in the industry, it is a collection with a large number of options and sizes available. The light source is a Linestra LED, which are available in different sizes and finishes. Scraps Lamps takes what was to be thrown away for scrap from the cutting shops and converts it with a few processes into a circular luminaire, with speech and beauty. The result is a collection of lamps with a contemporary aesthetic and with a great capacity to adapt to different spaces.

PROJECT SPECS:

40/15/10 cm - 10/15/30 cm. The lamps are made of standardized steel profiles and recycled plastic caps. The profiles are laser cut and painted with water-based paint. Two small screws make possible different combinations between the profiles to give stability to the lamp. A 30 or 50 cm led line is inserted into the metal body with the wiring installation.

Shelf Angle

by Melody Chen

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

The Shelf Angle is a minimal table lamp that attends to life's simple pleasures. Whether it's the latest novel you can't put down or a warm cup of bedside chamomile, the Shelf Angle provides both functionality and comfort for your home.A two-piece product, the Shelf Angle consists of a small bulb lamp providing a soft illumination against a striking metal base. The minimalist aesthetic is captured by the product's refined palette and flowing continuous profile of the angle. The Shelf Angle is versatile in use: a book end on your library shelf or stand-alone object on your work desk or nightstand. The slot in the metal angle is designed to also hold other items such as a cup, vase, or pencil holder to cater to the user for a personalized experience.

PROJECT SPECS:

The Shelf Angle prototype is made from a single sheet of 1/8" metal bent to shape. The bends are formed around a 1" radius and product dimensions measure 8 1/2" in length, 7 1/4" in height, and 5" in width. The lamp shade is fabricated with an SLA 3D printer. If manufactured, the type of metal and choice for the lamp shade will be chosen on the basis of sustainability.

A-Light

by Pentograph

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Oscillating between art and techne, the objective of A-Light is to insist on the wondrous potential of 3D ceramic printing, where innovation can be tied to beauty and functionality. With A-Light, we developed a flexible parametric code to map a unique texture onto a traditional form to achieve a timeless lighting object. 3D printing with clay introduces an unpredictable element into an ostensibly automated process. Clay performs according to its own nature. Our challenge was to harmonize our desires with the natural inclinations of clay. Through iteration and experimentation with our design parameters, and testing output protocol, we were able to successfully print – and push – A-Light to new dimensions. Using minimal and efficient lighting hardware nested inside recycled porcelain, and capped with recycled walnut, this pendant maximizes its functional beauty while minimizing its environmental impact. All excess clay is recycled in our shop.

PROJECT SPECS:

Dimensions: 24" tall x 13.5" Diameter (medium size) Materials: porcelain clay, walnut cap, E-26 Socket Fabrication Techniques: 3D printing

Pupa

by Andrea Brugnera

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

One day, I saw a butterfly gently resting on a small branch. Its light wings seemed to emit a soft glow, creating a harmonious balance between the fragility of the butterfly and the stability of the slender branch that supported it. This play of proportions and balance is reflected in the design of the Pupa lamp: a slim tubular aluminum structure holds and conceals the electric wiring inside, leading to the LED light source, placed between the laser-cut, bent aluminum wings. Pupa refers to the phase before a butterfly’s emergence, symbolizing the anticipation of transformation, like a lamp that, when lit, changes the perception of itself and its surroundings. Pupa was a challenging design, brought to life as shown in the prototype video. The lamp is designed to be disassembled and shipped flat for easy packaging.

PROJECT SPECS:

Pupa is a floor lamp standing 180 cm (71 inches) tall on three legs, one of which houses the electric cable running through the stem to the light source. It features a dimmable 30 cm (12 inches) LED strip, providing up to 800 lumens. The stem is made from 16 mm (0.63 inches) hollow aluminum tubes, bent and segmented for easy assembly and compact shipping. The lampshade consists of two laser-cut, bent aluminum wings.

SPIKE

by Ricardo Silva, Susana Rafael, Catarina Félix, iLAP

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

SPIKE is a luminaire designed for outdoor gardens with the aim of illuminating small shrubs and plants. Installed on the ground using a spike, it can be configured to feature 1, 2 or 3 adjustable spotlights, at the customer's discretion. Each spotlight is independent and has an anti-displacement mechanism so that it stays in the desired position under adverse wind, impact or rain conditions. Its simple, functional and elegant design allows it to blend in with the environment during the day and bring the garden to life at night. Built from CNC-milled aluminum with an electrostatic powder-coat finish, the SPIKE spotlight is equipped with high-quality power LEDs, and optics with a range of beam angles that provide narrow, medium or close light emissions with low glare. The use of stainless steel cable glands and rubber cables ensures a high level of water tightness.

PROJECT SPECS:

Luminaire consisting of 3 small spotlights (diam. 37mm, length 32mm), adjustable 360deg step less (x-axis) and 360deg in 12 steps (y-axis). With a total height of 615mm (3 spotlights) and a weight of 0,85kg, it can be configured to feature 2 spotlights (h=512mm) or 1 spotlight (h=410mm). Spike is equipped with a light engine CRI >90, power LEDs emitting 3x250lm, PMMA optics, remote driver, robust machine aluminum and reliable waterproof construction (IP67).

BIO:

B Light

by Alex Touguet / ALT Design

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

The B Light lamp has been designed to be entirely 3D printed, with the latest technological advances and more environmentally friendly materials such as PLA or PETG. Our goal is to be able to offer an industrial quality product that is made to order, in order to avoid overproduction, waste and stock management. With this lamp, we want to prove to the world that another way of producing is now possible, even on technical products integrating electronics. Additive manufacturing has the particularity of producing little waste. We went further by developing a design which, thanks to a clever combination of filaments and supportless printing, allows us to use 100% of the raw material, without waste.

PROJECT SPECS:

The B Light measures 95x95x295mm and is made from PLA and PET-G for lampshade. Each part is detachable from the others for easier recycling but the lamp nevertheless has a solid appearance and is designed to last for many years. It integrates a lithium-ion battery, a PCB developed locally in France as well as a 10W LED disk and a USB-C connector for charging. The duration of use is estimated at 16 hours.

BIO:
