CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Skylar is a portable table lamp intended for domestic context. To meet with the contemporary needs, Skylar provides both ambient light and direct light to work as a patio/ bedside lamp or a reading light. Users can switch between ambient mode with light being diffused heavily and reading mode with direct light. It features with a handbag-liked frame and a horizontal bridge where integrates most technical parts. The versatility and portability allows the lamp to be the real companion to your life anytime, anywhere.

PROJECT SPECS:

The general dimensions is: 266mm(L)*286mm(H)*58mm(D). For the prototype, the frame is made with in Aluminum profile, laser cut and bended, the girder is a 3d printed complenent with diffuser in arcrylic. The potential manufacturing process will be the same as above except that the girder could be made with metal profile or sheet to avoid plastic use as much as possible.

Zabriskie Portable Light (tie)

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Inspired by the landscape in the iconic 1970 film Zabriskie Point by Michelangelo Antonioni. Lophocereus Marginatus or more commonly know as Mexican Fencepost Cactus scatter the Mojave desert. This handsome cactus has columnar trunks reaching heights up to twenty feet. The plant’s common name is derived from the many Mexican roadways are fenced by the cactus.

The cacti form a metaphysical backbone within the desert, that helps define the imagery of wonder of the Southwestern US. I wanted to embody this form into a nomadic light that accompanies you from space to space, from indoor to out and that moves you.

I also wanted the light to be producible under certain means. With my partner in Shanghai, we were able to have the form be completely 3D Printed and tinted the exact color to give off a warm sunset glow.

PROJECT SPECS:

Zabriskie is a portable light powered by Anker PowerCore 5000 Rechargeable Battery, a 5V COB LED Strip, custom 3D printed USB - C Charing Port and Mini SPDT Slide Switch. The light can be carried by hand or placed down for use. Its lightweight resin body was completely 3D printed.

HORIZON

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Inspired by a temporary astronomical event - Eclipse, which brings a miracle and beautiful moment to the earth. To express the phenomenon, the luminary sculpture for indoor space runs with a simple mechanism. The lampshade can be rotated to control the direction of the light. The reflected light creates smooth shadows that appear along the arc both on the lamp body and on the back wall. It creates a shadow that corresponds to an eclipse, resulting in a functional and decorative floor lamp for everyday use. The design challenges come with the metal structure hidden inside the lower body to make sure it stands perpendicular. Another major challenge is showing the optimum and comfortable light source to look at and creating the best shadow effects which can enhance the spatial vibe. Resulting in using the geometric elements and plain white color to create this subtle sculptural lighting fixture.

PROJECT SPECS:

The floor lamp is made of 1mm powder-coated steel. The dimension is W320*D320*H1780. The light source is using LED strip profile with a PMMA diffuser. The manufacturing process complies with metal welding and folding and waterjet cutting.

SWI-WAL

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

SWI-WAl can achieve 3 different task from single design such as a night lamp, ambience light along with reading lamp. Which has 3 different colours of light (Cool White, Natural White and Warm White). Colour changing and turning ON/OFF of the lamp can achieve through 2 Touch gestures, by double tapping the lamp body it will turn ON/OFF the lamp and by single touch it can cycle between different colours.

PROJECT SPECS:

Dimensions of the SWI-WAL are 250 x 250 x 10 mm with Aluminium section width of 20 mm. Body of the SWI-WAL is made from 'C - Section' of Aluminium, Acrylic diffuser and Ball joint made from Steel and Plastic. The Body is Made from single 'C - Section' and achieve filleted square by cutting and bending technique and joined using brazing and Power Coated for matte black finish.
