Maya

by Luiza Guidi

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Shaped like empty frames, Maya is a collection of light sculptures that cast light in an enticing way and bring a new dimension to an otherwise flat wall. Turning them on is an experience in itself, with their light being a direct response to the user’s movements. Inspired by the architects Luis Barragán and Tadao Ando, who masterfully used sunlight as a graphical and fundamental element in their work, the aim - and challenge - with Maya was designing a collection with a beautifully intricate effect, but an uncomplicated shape, so the light could undeniably be its most important aspect. The response to the user’s movement draws a parallel to the motions of natural light and the way it bounces back on the wall foments an illusion of a new dimension: a sense of preciousness, excitement and the idea that each of our minds is its own universe with its unique realities.

PROJECT SPECS:

Dimensions: Maya Small - 70 x 40 x 2 cm / Maya Long - 170 x 35 x 2 cm / Maya XL - 140 x 110 x 2 cm

Materials: Powder Coated Steel / 2400K LED strips / Felt Manufacturing Process: The steel U-profiles are cut, welded together with the hinge and grinded by the designer. The powder coating is done by a specialized company and the electric part is installed by the designer.

Mikono portable light (tie)

by Moritz Putzier, Studio Moritz Putzier

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

With Mikono we created an intuitively to use and visually surprising lighting solution which combines the idea of a classic table light and a battery light. Its portable conically shaped light shade with the attached rubber sling gives the lamp not only a strong characteristic but also offers various ways to use: You can carry it around, hang in on the ceiling, place it on the table as decorative light in different positions or next to your bed for reading. The base serves as loading station and reveals some delicate detailes as it has a centered tunnel to house the loop of the shade when attached. A big round button on top of the shade appears eye catching and works as light switch with dimming feature. When developing the technical configuration we were focused on achieving a lamp where only the battery can be changed without replacing the entire light.

PROJECT SPECS:

Our two 3D printed prototypes are fully operating. They include a specially for this light designed solution for loading. In production, the lampshade would be produced in centrifugal casting from LDPE and the docking station as two-part injection molded part from PC.

The LED light source is warm white 2700K, CRI 90. The charge volume of the battery offers 7-8 hours in peak power. The product dimension is: height 200mm and diameter 180mm.

T-Lamp

by Heajin Ko

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

The T lamp is inspired by paintings in Performance B series which centers around geometrical shapes and finding the balance between them. And now, extending those ideas into a physical lighting experiment. The horizontal line of the T is represented by a LED fixture, balancing on a brass line with a matt wooden sphere at its base. The lamp has a T shape when it is horizontal and when moved to a vertical position, it transforms into a thin line which gives more emphasis to the sphere at the base. The structure of the lamp is simple but the 180 degree swivel gives the user the ability to pursue various shapes and positions of the lamp which can be used to set different moods or illuminate certain areas of a space, or for reading your next book.

PROJECT SPECS:

The T lamp is constructed with wood, brass, and a painted aluminum fixture. Overall Dimensions are 51.7"(H) x 35.4"(W) with a 10" diameter wooden sphere base. The LED fixture is 2700K, 24V LED 600Lm. The middle of the body is a 5⁄8" diameter brass tube connecting to the LED fixture with a 180 degree swivel joint. Sphere is made from pine tree and finished with Urethane.
