Revolve

by Echo(Wenjie) Zhan

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Revolve is a decorative wall lamp; it is also a portal to another world. In ancient times, humans build their rhythm of life base on the change of seasons, sunrise, and sunset. We also have a smaller scale of rhythms. When we take a deep breath, we feel the cool air coming in and then the warm air coming out. Nowadays, the notion of rhythm has become a passive choice made by all the responsibilities we carry. Revolve helps us anchor ourselves among the chaos. It is a soft and subtle rhythm reminder. With a piece of dichroic acrylic fixed below the frosted cover, the color changes in real-time with the led light source's position. Every time you look at the light, you always see it anew. When the led source moved below or above the dichroic acrylic, there's also a subtle change in light temperature.

PROJECT SPECS:

Dimension: 400mm(15.7in) x 400mm(15.7in) x 75mm(3in) Materials: Dichroic Acrylic, Frosted Acrylic(with painted rim), Aluminum (Current prototype is made with 3d printed resin. The real product would be using chrome plating aluminum for the case.) Potential Manufacturing Process: Metal stamping for the circular case, bending and drilling for the aluminum heat sink, bending and welding for the back box.

Loop

by Julian David & Acero Rodriguez

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Loop is a floor lamp which creates different atmospheres through the light, it has a sphere light that travels from the top to the bottom of the structure while it increase or decrease the light (full illuminated when is at the top, semi- illuminates when is at the middle and off the is at the bottom)

The light uses a rack pinion so it can be placed at any height, creating this way different kinds of light depending on the activity or mood the person has.

PROJECT SPECS:

My name is Julian Acero Rodriguez. I am a Colombian industrial designer, currently doing a course on “product design and development” at the national university of Colombia. I am a curious and passionate designer who wants to create experiences through the objects I design as well as elements that may be enjoyed.

Versa

by Priscilla Auyeung, Rose Zhang

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Inspired by modern space technology and the traditional practice of origami, Versa is designed with adaptability in mind. As it transitions from being fully compressed to expanded, Versa unravels an infinitude of experiences, revealing an ever-changing array of reflected colors and dispersed light. Seemingly minimal in creation, Versa beholds far more than meets the eye. Its manipulation of dichroic glass, modulating light through a series of hinged “folds,” allows the laser-cut prismatic panels to unveil an unexpected, vibrant glow. Versa lets our minds bend as effortlessly as light, converging our living spaces with the wonders of the universe.

PROJECT SPECS:

Dimensions: When lamp is closed: 67" x 11" x 11" When lamp is open: 67" x 37" x 37" Materials: Glass laser-cut panels, 3M Dichroic Glass Finish, Nickelplated brass 67" height x 11" width x

Oblate

by Michael Yan

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

Oblate is a table lamp inspired by the nature of how we interact with light, simply covering the light source when we don't need it. It started with one simple question, can we have a different way to turn the light on and off? In my design, I incorporate a reed switch in the bottom body and hide a magnet inside the oblate top. The light will be off when the magnet activates the reed switch.

The oblate geometry gives a calm mood when it is balanced, yet, you will find it more interesting when it's tilted. Users are encouraged to tilt the oblate top to adjust the light direction.

PROJECT SPECS:

Dimension: 140x140x184 (mm) Materials: Painted PLA, Translucent SLA Resin Potential Manufacturing Process: 3D Printing, Injection Molding

KY, Rotating desk lamp

by Constance Thiessoz

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

For this project I decided to work with wood, more precisely with a wood assembly that does not use glue or anything else. I wanted to work on a lamp. As a particularity I wanted this lamp to be rotatable thanks to the joint that assembles it. So, I worked on different types of joints, adapting them so that they could be rotated, which allowed me to reach my goal. I wanted to keep the design very simple by following the shapes of my assembly and using cylindrical shapes.

PROJECT SPECS:

Ky is an oak desk lamp. It is 35 cm wide and 35 cm high. The different parts of the lamp are made on a lathe. Ky is held together by the dowels which also allow it to rotate. The leds are accompanied by a diffuser that allows you to light your workplace with ease.
