Wick

by Seth Grizzle – LEAD, Dan Taylor, Arno Ruijzenaars, Erwin Termaat, Graypants Studio

CONCEPT STATEMENT:

We no longer rely on candles to keep us out of the dark, but candlelight has always filled our lives–setting the stage for warm dinners, intimate evenings, gatherings of all kinds. We wanted to create a fixture that captures that atmosphere and sentiment— almost like a call from our past to our future. At high, Wick is twice as bright as a traditional candle, but without risk of fire. Timeless and cordless, Wick adapts to and fits a broad variety of contexts, from a hotel room to a bustling restaurant patio, to a romantic, evening picnic. This team designs objects that fit into the texture of the design landscape, and with the renewed emphasis on making the everyday special that recent times have brought, Wick is a heart-warming answer to the moment. Wick has three lighting levels and a pulse mode, lasting up to 100 hours.

PROJECT SPECS:

Wick is constructed with an aluminum body, plated in satin brass, with an ergonomic carrying ring referencing classic candleholders. Wick has an USB-C rechargeable battery within, with a battery life of over a hundred hours on the lowest setting, with a minimum of 6 hours at its brightest.
